Proposed Solutions
For its opponents, the obvious solution to the issue of capital punishment would be to stop executing people. This has been attempted several times, notably in 2012 by a initiative to abolish the death penalty put on the California ballot. This measure failed.
Alternatively, some opponents of the death penalty argue that slowing down the process to be 100% sure of a convict's guilt would solve the problem. This would also include attempts at rehabilitation, reducing the death penalty to a last resort measure.

Proponents of the death penalty have no reason to continue to argue for the death penalty unless they want harsher punishments. That is pretty uncommon though.
